Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you’re looking for windows, doors, blinds, a kitchen etc… your first step is to set up an appointment for a home visit (it’s free!). If you’re building a new home, we’ll meet in our showroom to go over your blueprints. With the information we gather, we’ll put together an estimate and go over it with you in detail.
For DesignBy, your estimate will include the products (cabinetry, countertops, hardware) as well as the professional installation. Our finish carpenters are on-staff to guarantee a flawless installation. We use 3D design software to show you what your new cabinets will look like in your space.
The Window Shop can quote supply-only if you have a contractor to do the work, or we can include the installation using our factory trained installers. Our installers will remove and dispose of the old material, install the new product, and trim out the windows and doors as needed.
Renovating your kitchen but don’t have a contractor? We can also provide project management services using our carpenters and trusted sub-trades. If its something we can’t do, then we can recommend one of the many skilled contactors we know and work with.
If you’re looking for a quote on custom window treatments, you can stop in or book an appointment with our blind specialist. All you need to get started is some rough measurements of the window openings, and an idea of the look you want! Once you get the estimate and decide to move forward, we’ll send our installer out to take a final measure prior to ordering. Our estimates include the installation.
We serve the greater Saint John area, and further! We’ve done projects from Moncton to St. Stephen and will happily travel to complete your job.
If your windows are foggy or your glass breaks we can install new thermopanes in your existing window frame, as long as the frame is in good shape and accepts a double-glazed glass unit. Thermos are a great cost effective alternative.
Insert windows are another option if you don’t want to disturb your trim, especially in an older or historic home.
Yes! We have a large showroom is at 117 Hampton Road in Rothesay. There is so much to look at including kitchen displays, countertop and cabinet colour samples, windows, doors, and siding colours, and more. Our experienced sales staff will guide you through all of your options and explain the features of the products we carry.
Don’t worry, we’ve got you! Our kitchen designers are certified interior decorators that can guide you in the right direction to properly pull everything together. Not only with our cabinetry and countertops, but with flooring, backsplash, paint colours, light fixtures, you name it!
The ideal time to come and see us for windows, doors, and even kitchens is before the build even starts! Because we care about what we do, we take a close look at your building plans and can often recommend even small changes that have a huge impact on the look and flow of your home. Maybe your patio door should be wider or your kitchen window moved 6″ to the left so your cabinets fit better… your builder will want to know as soon as possible.
The kitchen cabinets are one of the last things to be installed but your trades will want to know the layout and sizes for their rough-in locations as early as the foundation pour. Designing early also ensures that you get a well thought out space in the end that you truly love.
The lead time will vary depending on the product you’re ordering. Doors and windows are all made-to-order and things like the size, paint colour, and decorative glass will effect their production timeframe. Our sales staff will be able to give you an approximate timeline for your specific order. We install windows and doors all year long so the cold weather won’t cost you time.
For kitchen renovations, there is also no direct answer because every project is different! A simple renovation could take anywhere from three weeks, while a complex project can be more like six.
The bonus of working with a small business like us is that we can help with any issues you have down the road. A great manufacturer’s warranty combined with personalized customer service makes for a worry-free experience.
While it seems like the new windows are the problem, this is actually an indication that they’re doing their job! They’re more airtight and energy efficient than your previous windows. Condensation is most noticable when the temperature outside starts to drop, creating a greater difference in temperature between the inside and outside air. The warm humid air in your home can no longer escape as easily through your new windows. Here are some ways to help the problem:
- The best solution is to use your air exchange system effectively. It’s job is to introduce fresh outside air into your home to reduce the humidity (and improve the overall air quality). Check your settings and if you don’t have one, consider having one installed.
- Use your fans. When cooking or showering be sure to always have the vent turned on. This will get rid of the excessive amounts of steam to reduce humidity.
- Use a dehumidifier. Often the bedrooms are the worst spots for humidity due to the amount we produce while sleeping and from having our curtains closed, trapping humid air against the glass. Using a portable dehumidifier will help target the worst areas in your home.
- Crack the windows. Opening up the windows even just an inch or two for about 20 minutes will help reduce the condensation on the glass.
